Someone explain the Bambu Lab "lock down" problem to me like I'm 5

The A1is a great example of cheap replacements slipping in. The tensioning screw is screwed into thin plastic and once it looses tension it usually isnt actually able to be retensioned.. its a whole print head replacement and by the time you bother, you might aswell have replaced the printer. The same thin plastic has been rolled out for a lot of parts in newer printers.

1000 Hours In: My Honest Thoughts on the Creality SparkX i7

the Hi is built way better than the A1, better components, better materials, solid as a rock. I have a Hi with the same experience. The main problem with Creality is that they drop all support the moment they release a new model, they act like it never existed. The other problem i found, again not critical but annoying, is the screws they use. These are the worst quality i have ever encountered. I have replaced all m3 screws on the Hi but still have one i need to drill out. These things strip like crazy. Other than that i can't fault it. The Hi looks like the Bambu A1 and no matter what Bambu does to convince people that Creality is trash, the Hi is built way better than the A1, better components, better materials, solid as a rock, full metal base, full metal frame. 10 minutes unpacking and building and my first print could start.

ANALYSIS PARALYSIS Qibi Looks Better Than Bambu

I’ve heard this before. People say “well there’s LAN mode”. But then they also say Bambu is great BECAUSE of the ecosystem (app, Makerworld, Cloud Integration, etc.). You can’t have it both ways. If the user is not interested in Bambu’s walled garden, then there is almost no advantage to going that route vs the others. In fact, the Q2 is much more feature rich from a hardware perspective than the P or A series Bambu machines. The Q2 is $499 in the US and can be purchased with a 7% discount from at least one distributor. While the P2S is $50 more and doesn’t have any discount that I’m aware of. Granted, the A1 is $200 less than the Q2, which represents good value IF you know for certain that you will never be printing anything that requires a heated chamber or better environmental control (drafts from central air can cause warping issues even with entry level filaments) AND you’re ok with the Bambu walled garden. If you don’t meet those two requirements, you’re better served looking elsewhere. For my money, I’d definitely recommend the Q2. The way I look at it is: I can go through $200 in filament easily so in the big picture I’d rather invest the $200 in something that won’t limit me down the road. Between the heated chamber, larger build volume, tighter pitch belts, etc. you get way more than $200 worth of value between the Q2 and A1. I also prefer an enclosed printer because I use fume extraction to ensure printing in living spaces remains safe.
